     Often  the  messenger who brings unwelcomed  news  is
treated  as if she/he is responsible for the situation  to
which the bad news points.  So also symptoms of alienation
and evil behavior may be regarded as inherently evil;  and
be hidden or otherwise treated dishonestly.

     People  whose behaviors,  life styles,  dilemmas  and
problems  are symptoms of their alienation from  seats  of
political  power bring unwelcomed news to those who sit in
the  seats  of  power.    Thus  religious,    educational,
political  and  business leaders often regard  such  alien
people  as unwelcomed messengers and treat the  messengers
as  evil  people  whose  behaviors  need  to  be  properly
controlled.

     A more honest and integrative way to respond to  such
alien  messengers  is  to  seek  to  understand  how   the
unwelcomed  messengers may wisely be regarded as  pointing
to  symptoms  of  alienation of people from the  seats  of
power to recover health and integrity.  Their messages may
be  embarrassing and at the same time it may be  essential
to  respond  to the messages with honesty  and  integrity.
The  evil does not reside in the messengers  or  symptoms,
and  it is dishonest to pretend that the evil  resides  in
the  relationships  in which the judges  participate  with
self righteous arrogance.

     Confusion of symptoms of alienation (evil)  with evil
is not helpful.   Yet messengers who bring  clarifications
which expose such confusion are most likely to be regarded
as  messengers  who are evil because they bring  unwelcome
news  to  people sitting in seats of power which is  being
