When a community regards its members as having disembodied sexless souls, it objectives sexual relationships and finds it impossible to acknowledge the presence of sexual pleasure in all but the most hidden human meetings. Then the community as a whole does not witness together regarding personal sexual pleasures as actually experienced by members of the community, for the admission of actually yourself having such pleasures is inconsistent with the accepted dogma pertaining to sexless souls. When a community regards its members as having disembodied sexless souls; it is philosophically, theologically and scientifically reasonable for many of its members to objectify their own and other people's personal relationships, as part of a systematic scientific enterprise to view all of reality as essentially objective, even at the level of souls. In the absence of the experience of and honest dialogue regarding sexuality as an essential ingredient of healthy inter-personal relationships, it is possible to regard the objectification of inter-personal relationships by scientists as normal and proper; something to which there is no ground to object, for even objections are supposed to be based upon objective considerations. When the word for an impersonal thing, "object", is the same word which is used to protest against being greeted and treated as if one's soul is an impersonal thing, an "object"; then communication is bound to be "objectified" and bound to be confused regarding the essence of real meeting, really saying "hello", and really being open and honest in intimate I-Thou conversations, all of which are essential to meaningful communication. When a community regards its members as having disembodied sexless souls, it seems proper to play dishonest games of mutual self deception regarding the sexual aspects of everyday meetings, and intimate acknowledgments of each other's presence: and to minimize the sexual aspects of everyday meetings and intimate acknowledgments of each other's personal presence---through objectification of all personal relationships; so that life loses its spirit. When a community regards its members as having disembodied sexless souls, its members learn to regard the absence of sexuality as a sign of the presence of the holy spirit; and to seek the holy spirit in rituals, times and places from which the acknowledgment of sexuality is banned. The life of the spirit becomes a life without passion, without honesty, without real meeting, and without really saying hello to each other as whole beings. Real honesty is not possible in such a community. It is important to take note of the consequences of regarding the respected and respectable members of a community as having disembodies sexless souls. The consequences include personal and communal disintegration due to the disintegration of honesty, intimate conversations, and self-esteem. It is important to take note of the consequences of regarding sexually active people as not worthy of respect, conversation, and acceptance because they are open and honest about their own real sexual experiences which do not correspond to the community's dogmas about the disembodiment of souls from sexuality. The consequences include personal and communal disintegration due to the disintegration of honesty, intimate conversations, passion and self-esteem. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
