It is assumed that some people have such power, and that other people do not have it; and that somehow such power can be given, taken, transferred, conferred or in some other way change hands. Much conflict revolves around perceptions of who has power, and who does not have power to be in control. There are some instances in which people do have authority, power and the ability to control some things. It is usually impersonal things which can be controlled. It is rarely people who can be controlled. When it appears that people are being controlled it may be more appearance than reality, for there are hidden aspects of people which are never controlled by others. Even the appearance of control is as much a delusion in the eyes of the controller as it is a reality; for personal control is never an objective reality which exists apart from its appearance to others. Control of people exists only in the eyes of those people who perceive it. Control of people is never an objective reality. People who think otherwise are fools. Conflict exists between people seeking to manipulate the appearance of being in control in their own eyes and in the eyes of others who do not see clearly. Conflict pertains to grounds for self esteem which are regarded as dependent upon levels and kinds of control. Conflict pertains to seeking to dishonestly maintain the appearance of being in control in the absence of true control. Those people who threaten to destroy the appearance of control, are likely to be threatened by those who seek to maintain the appearance of control in futile efforts to maintain their self esteem.
