     Emotionally  dead  people may be dead through  active
abuse or through lack of stimulation.

     Children who grow up in emotionally abusive  families
may be abused either actively or passively.   Active abuse
involves inappropriate over stimulation which violates the
integrity of the child.   Passive abuse is more subtle and
often  entails the lack of appropriate  stimulation  which
leaves   the   child   emotionally   dead,     emotionally
unresponsive.

     Children  who  have been victims of either active  or
passive  abuse  will find it difficult  to  function  with
personal integrity as adults until they have come to terms
with the abuse they suffered in their childhood.  If their
adult lives involve living lies which deny the reality  of
their  childhood abuse,  then they cannot as  adults  live
with  integrity;  for they are  living lies which deny the
reality of  the experiences  which are central to how they
came to be who they are, and how they respond to all kinds
of situations.

     Communities  which  passively  tolerate  active   and
passive  abuse  of  their children  are  creating  endless
problems  for  the future of the communities;  because the
emotional  problems  of children become  the  driving  and
guiding  forces for the emotional and behavioral tragedies
of  the  future adults.   The child is the parent  of  the
future adult  whom the child  grows up to be.    The adult
cannot  function   with integrity  if the  conception   of
the  adult through the child's early life lacks integrity.
Communal  integrity in the future will  depend  critically
upon  the integrity of the lives of today's children.

     Today's  children  whose  lives lack  integrity  will
become tomorrow's adults whose lives will lack  integrity;
who will behave in ways which will  not make sense to them
or to others.

     Physically  dead people do not respond  appropriately
to any physical stimulus.   Emotionally dead people do not
respond appropriately to any emotional stimulus.   Similar
statements may be made about people who are dead in  other
ways:  intellectually,  sexually, erotically,  communally,
scientifically,  musically,  artistically,  etc.   In each
instance death may have been occasioned by active abuse or
passive  abuse;   by the violation of  the  child/person's
integrity  through  over-stimulation of  an  inappropriate
sort,   or  through deprivation of timely and  appropriate
stimulation.     Each  kind  of  death  leads  to   tragic
consequences    in  the  deprived  lives  of  those    who
physiologically  survive the death and function as pseudo-
persons  who  are the living dead;  and    who    conceive
even    more    living    dead     through   dysfunctional
families which lack understanding and  lack the ability to
