Differences with regards to what is considered as normal, proper, natural, and essential play major roles in levels of satisfaction enjoyed. In some people's conceptions satisfaction is to be achieved through determined effort to achieve preconceived goals which are regarded as essential to satisfaction. Such people are often preoccupied with manipulative techniques by which they can achieve control of processes which are regarded as essential means to the achievement of satisfaction. To other people satisfaction is to be found through a search as in a journey to a satisfying place. They expect to find satisfaction in somewhat the same manner that one might discover an enchanted island where everyone is happy because of the mystical character of the place. There are also people who hope to enjoy satisfaction while letting go and letting God guide them according to the divine will to offer heavenly satisfaction to those who accept it on heavenly terms. They do not strain to achieve, manipulate or control. They seek to be receptive towards the goods which God offers, and which with wisdom they may accept with satisfaction. They often enjoy their imperfect lives with more satisfaction than those who seek to enjoy satisfaction through achievements and perfect fulfillment of their desires. Some people expect to enjoy satisfaction upon completing their journey; in a final state of completion and satisfaction. They are often disappointed to find that satisfaction is not perpetual upon completions of journeys, yet they do not change their preconceptions of what it will be like at the ends of their journeys. Other people expect to enjoy satisfaction in the company of others on their journeys; as they progress as pilgrims together in each other's friendly company. They seek to be and make friends on their journeys, and to enjoy intimate dialogue with each other on the way. They often find, accept, and enjoy what they seek. In each other's intimate company they find the wisdom which is needed to be satisfied with integrity. Some people try so hard to achieve their own satisfaction that they can not be satisfied with integrity. What they seek to achieve cannot be achieved with integrity; and so cannot be enjoyed with integrity. The way they seek to achieve satisfaction is essentially disintegrative, because it does not demonstrate respect for other people's integrity. Real satisfaction cannot be enjoyed through disintegrative processes. When they are faced with integrative processes they turn away to seek satisfaction in disintegrative processes which they conceive for the purpose of achieving their own satisfaction. Their efforts are futile in their sophistication and resource consumptive elegance. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
