The person who is in a conceptual prison is not free to enjoy the variety of different conceptual perspectives on the world of ideas; is not free to conceptually move around. The person who is in an emotional prison is not free to enjoy the variety of different emotional perspectives upon human experiences; is not free to emotionally move around and be involved in a variety of different intimate relationships. The person who is in a spiritual prison is not free to enjoy the various spiritual perspectives on what it is and means to be fully human; on not free to move spiritually through the variety of spiritual perspectives of differing people. The person who is in a scientific prison is not free to enjoy the variety of different ways of knowing; is not free to move through different states of consciousness and through different forms of being with-knowledge in a con- science (with-knowledge) way. The members of a technocratic community are trapped in a prison of technocracy. They are addicted to and worship techniques and manipulations, including manipulations of each other in efforts to gain control of their lives and their environment. The members of an addictive community are trapped in an addictive paradigm which does not permit them to be reflexive and look at themselves openly and honestly. It does not permit them to be emotionally free. It does not permit them to be spiritually free. It does not permit them to be free to know in different ways. Addicts are in the prison of their limited way of perceiving the world. The prison of the addict is a prison which is constructed with great conviction and sincerity in a tragic effort to be good and perfect. Misguided efforts to escape from their prison is what is keeping addicts in the prison. They do not know how to escape, because that knowledge is one of their forbidden forms of knowledge. The addict and supportive codependents are trapped in a prison of collusive games of mutual self deception. They can not escape from their games because one of the rules of their games is that the games must be concealed and they must pretend that they are not playing their games. One lie leads to other lies to cover up the previous lies. The more lies which have been told the more must be told to cover up the lies which have been told. The number of lies told grows exponentially in an explosion of deceptions. White lies are told for good reasons, and other lies are told to cover the good lies which were told for good reasons. The boundary between good lies and evil lies becomes confused, and one of the foundation lies is that there is a difference between good and evil lies. The essence of evil is estrangement. Lies lead to estrangement. Being deceptive is the essence of behaving in estranging ways, the essence of behaving in evil ways. Respecting and being dedicated to manipulative management of appearances are the foundations of the development of an addictive society. The alienation is real even if the purpose of the management of appearances was initially lofty and perceived as spiritually worthy of respect. Any paradigm which constrains the perception of alternatives is a prison. Any paradigm which restrains communication of alternatives is a prison. Any ideals and values which inhibit open and honest communication are imprisoning ideals. Ideals and values which conceal these truths are the ultimate prison. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
