     Ancient  people  were  close  to  the  technology  of
smelting  whereby  the use of fire the  metallic  elements
were  obtained  by the apparently destructive  process  of
heating.    The elementary came out of destruction.    The
essential substance was left over after the fire.

     That  which  is essential to our being is  left  over
after  the fire.   Before the fire we probably do not know
what  essential to our being,  and we may try to  preserve
that which is not essential to our being.   In our efforts
to  preserve  that which is not essential to our being  we
tend  to  corrupt the process of our being who we  are  in
reality.    We  can not preserve what we are through great
effort.   What we really are will be preserved in spite of
our misguided efforts.   We can not achieve our true being
by trying to conform to any set of expectations.   What we
are at the deepest level will  be made manifest by how  we
behave in trials and tribulations.

     We tend  to fear the unknown,  and often  prefer  the
terrible  known to the charitable unknown;  thus we  often
seek  to preserve the terrible out of a fear of love.   If
we  have  not  known  true  love  we  tend  to  fear   the
possibility  of true love which we do not know.  We try to
preserve the illusion of gaining control, in preference to
the fulfillment of our potentials in love which we can not
