If any theory or system of classification become central in the life of Jack, then Jack is likely to slip into addictive processes which constitute the worship of such a theory or classification system. People who are primarily concerned with scholarship and knowledge are tempted to worship that which is central in their life, their "god", if they do not have an integrative communal sense of what is ultimately important to real living. In the absence of such a coherent communal sense which is overtly shared, the temptation to worship a theory or system of classification is likely to be irresistible, and the scholar/scientist is bound to fall into idolatry. When one worships any one way of viewing reality, one must avoid any experiences and realities which would challenge that demi-god. One must become dishonest in collusive ways to protect the demi-god which one worships, because it cannot survive on its own power. The demi-god becomes a dependent co-addict, and the worshipers become co-dependents with the demi-god whom they serve. The demi-god becomes a reality upon whom the co-dependents depend to make their lives meaningful; for being out of touch with authentic experiences and realities there is nothing else to give meaning to their lives.
