An evil ideal conceals its own alienative consequences by alienating those who respect it so they cannot perceive its consequences. This is done by blocking personal and communal communication. Evil ideals compromise and/or violate personal and communal communication rights and rites. Evil ideals inhibit communal rituals which might expose the consequences of the ideals which tend to disintegrate persons and communities. To believe in the worth of evil ideals, their personal incarnations must believe that evil ideals can not possibly exist. Such a belief lacks integrity, but the evil ideals still lead to disintegration which is invisible to those who respect the misleading evil ideals. Evil ideals block their own assessment. Evil ideals form part of the fabric of a collusion in which people play games of mutual self deception in order to hold together a pattern of perception and action which lacks integrity. The purpose of evil ideals is to maintain an appearance of integrity. Evil ideals appeal to people's desire to support integration; yet they lead to disintegration because serving them entails the use of deception, coercion, threat, rejection and violence to conform to the vision of integrity implicit in the ideals. Evil ideals point to the achievement of integrity as a technical goal. In such a vision the achievement of integrity entails conformity to some particular vision of the kind of behavior which is a regarded sign of integrity. Evil ideals prescribe proper behavior and demand the rejection of those people who do not conform to the prescribed behavior. Charitable acceptance is proscribed because all acceptance must be conditional upon conformity to the vision of achieved integrity. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
