Various levels may be of various character as to focus, intent, character, integrity, etc. The focus may be upon objective reality, subjective reality, sensations, interpretation of sensations, memories, expectations, regrets, hopes, fears, judgments, punishments, etc. In each instance that which is the focus of attention appears as real and has reality keeping with its own character. In each moment of consciousness, experiences and reflection there may be in a sense an intention: enjoyment, integration, escape, dominance, success, reconciliation, understanding, etc. The intention and focus are together related to the character of the moment and its level of consciousness, experience and reflection. As in an onion the various levels may enclose and hid each other: depending upon focus, intention, character, integrity, etc. If the intention is to hide there may be many levels which become subconscious and difficult if not impossible to bring back to the level of consciousness once they have been locked away from reflection. To bring them to consciousness might be perceived as violating the integrity of the prison which was constructed to keep dangerous thoughts from escaping. Only in the light of a new reflection upon integrity and a new conception of the character of a prisoner can one with equanimity release a dangerous thought from the deepest levels of sub-consciousness to be integrated into the daily stream of reflection and dialogue. It may be necessary to work through many protective levels of thought which imprison deepest thoughts as dangerous and unworthy of the light of daily dialogue. Integrity may be regained only through the integration of the various levels of focus, intention, character and integrity; levels constructed in fear rather than by Love. Fear may use many means to construct barriers to integration as defenses against that which is feared, and take pride in the effectiveness of the defenses; even as the defenses lead to disintegration and the intensification of fear. Fear will oppose the reconciliations sought by Love because such reconciliations involve the transcendence of the walls of fear, showing that the defenses are not beyond transcendence.
