Should a community guarantee its members the right to actively promote distrust, alienation, suspicion, anarchy and the general disintegration of personal and communal integrity? Is such disintegrative behavior which makes no claim and/or has no credible character of promoting personal and communal integrity worthy of respect on the grounds of freedom of communication being an absolute right? Might legitimate rights of freedom of communication best be served by the development of clear criteria in terms of which to recognize disintegrative communications which are not worthy of respect? To claim all communications should enjoy the protection of communications which challenge in profound ways the collusions and taboos of a society is better served by the clear articulation of integrative standards for freedoms of communication, than by unreasonable excessively broad claims that all communications should be protected no matter how disintegrative their intent and/or effect may be. Participants in collusions are likely to perceive profound challenges to their collusion as disintegrative in character, and so they are likely to contend that such communications should not enjoy the protection of guaranteed rights of communication. Thus the articulation of practical standards will not be simple. Practical standards will probably have to do with the difference between communications which entail positive affirmations which bear the mark of seeking to promote personal and communal integrity and other communications which are characterized by denials, negativisms, exclusivities, excommunications, rejections, inhibitions, coercions, and other features which tend to undermine personal and/or communal integrity.
