In the light of that presumption they presume to be able to make a commitment to achieve chosen/specified consequences by their manipulation of circumstances. A failure to fulfill such a commitment is presumed to be a sign of a failure of intention, will, dedication, intelligence, etc; and worthy of implicit or explicit censure. There is no overt recognition that a failure to fulfill such commitment might be due to factors which are utterly beyond human control. Relationships which involve human beings are never as unambiguously objective as they are often presumed to be. By virtue of the human involvement they are not entirely objective in character. If there is no human involvement they are not entirely objective in character. If there is not human involvement there is no human knowledge of them and such relationships are of not concern to humans. They are not discussed by humans. The objective "?" relationships which are of concern to humans are not purely objective by virtue of the fact that humans are interested in said relationships. The greater is human involvement in a relationship, the less total is the possibility of there being total human control over the consequences of the relationship: the less the relationship has consequences which may be totally understood/controlled as an objective relationship. The greater is the human commitment to achieving a pre-specified consequence to some human endeavor, the greater is the involvement of humans in the relationships, the less objective they are, and the less sure humans can be of total control over the outcome. Thus a commitment to success in being totally objective is in a paradoxical way a self defeating commitment. As a result it undermines both personal and communal integrity; tending as it does to lead humans to play games of mutual self deception regarding the nature of the commitment and of its consequences. Such commitments set in motion strange loops of reflexive consequences. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
